Project ACCESS named in the top five best European broadband projects
Project ACCESS, a groundbreaking scheme to deliver a high capacity wireless broadband network across Cumbria and North Lancashire, has been named among the top five best European broadband projects.
The innovative scheme was celebrated at a high profile conference in Brussels this week (14th and 15th May). Held by the EU Commission, ‘Bridging the Broadband Gap’, showcased Project ACCESS, which was nominated fifth position from an initial project entry list of 149 competitors.
The event was attended by approx 600 people from the EU including representatives of rural communities; national/regional/local authorities; ICT industry; relevant social and economic actors, including development agencies; research/academia institutions; user/consumer and citizens' organisations; chambers of commerce; and other relevant public and private entities.
